Happenings

Well....it is official our children look like they came from the backwoods! They went from being scared of everything and not wanting to walk around in bare feet to this...making mud pies in the back yard. No child of ours will be afraid of mud. We have had a wonderful last few weeks with Mother's Day (my first!) and Memorial Day. My first Mother's Day felt a little strange yet kind of like I was a Mother for years. I guess all the waiting and hoping already gave me a mothers heart. Most of my feelings on that day were just how much I admired my own mom and all those moms out there. It is a tough job yet so many of my friends and family do it without batting an eye. You truly are amazing. Anyway my husband made this beautiful card with pictures and asked the girls what I would like for M-Day. Rosa-chocolate cake, Angela-chocolate, Laura-the letter M. I received all of those wonderful gifts and many hugs/kisses.
Here are some pictures of Memorial Day weekend with Brian's parents. Even though we live 15 minutes from Lake Erie this was the day that the girls finally went to the beach. At first they were a little timid but after a couple of minutes they loved the water and sand. We can not wait to get to the outer banks later this year. We know they will love the ocean. It still amazes us to watch them experience all these firsts. It is like living life through new eyes each and every day. We have a busy summer planned and I hope to take time to enjoy everyday with my beautiful girls before they grow up too fast.

First Soccer Game!

Angela and Laura have started soccer. Here are some pictures from the first game. Angela enjoyed running and we are working on kicking the ball. She also loves snack and juice. She is definately the out going one and loves to play with other kids.
Here is Laura standing in the middle of the field. The girls run past her chasing the ball.....

The girls run past her the other way chasing the ball...

and she stands. After some tears and watching her sister play she decides to get back in the game and does better. We have had 2 games since and she continues to learn more and more about soccer. She too loves snack and juice at the games. We are so proud of our girls for trying new things and learning all about something they have never even seen before. We are so proud of them and can't wait to see them continue to grow.

Horses, Sheep and Cows Oh My

O.k who would have thought that our girls who would scream at the sight of animals would actually ride a pony? In only 9 months they have come a long way in over coming their fear of animals. They still cried a little at the Lake County Farm Park when the animals came up to them but as long as they could approach the animals on their own terms they were fine. It was amazing to see them excited about the animals and they actually touched horses, cows, sheep and pigs. They even got to milk a cow! Let's even say they ran to milk a cow. It is so promising to see such growth since we both love animals and we are getting one step closer to getting our new kitten.

We started telling the girls a story about how we became a family and we began looking at pictures from our trip to Bogota. Since that time they have been talking alot about Colombia and even cried a little saying they miss Colombia. It is so wonderful to have them talk about the orphanage and open up a little about that chapter in their lives. Since they have mentioned nothing before this is a huge breakthrough and we feel it shows a sign of security. Laura talks about how she swept the floor and that Rosa slept in a different room than her. She remembers the day we became a forever family in detail (like what was in my hair and what toys were in the room). It is those little memories we want to capture so they have some part of their past.

Happy Easter!

We have had a wonderful resurrection Sunday and have enjoyed family, food, fun and now sunshine. It has been a challenge to teach the girls the meaning of Easter as they keep thinking Jesus is a baby. Now when ever we talk about someone dying they ask if they died on a cross. It is really cute but hopefully we will find ways to help them experience God's love for themselves. We have started soccer and that keeps us busy with two practices a week and games on Saturday. This week is their first game so be ready to see some pictures........

Spring is here!

Spring is here and we decided to make some changes in the girls room. Angela and Laura are now sleeping in bunk beds while Rosa is in a big girl bed. They love their new beds and have been playing in their room everyday. We have had some trials lately but the past couple of days have been nice. Rosa has been letting her funny side show through as her personality keeps blossoming. She fell out of her bed (on her face) the other night while Brian was reading the story and she gets up and says....I'm o.k to everyone. Laura continually amazes us by how smart she is and remembers things in detail about a book we read from the library 4 months ago. Angela continues to be our active and silly daughter but loves to give kisses and hugs all the time. We have been making baby burritos (wrapping them up with cheese and sauce in a big blanket and rocking them) and using a blanket for baby swings which all foster closeness and attachment. It is wonderful to see us growing more into a family every day.
